Matiu Rota has a Bachelor's Degree in Counselling. He is a Māori male Counsellor in Nelson, working with trauma. He has over 30 years of lived experience from a vast range of areas. He presents his work from a bi-cultural perspective drawing from his own "bi-cultural-ness". He has a love for people and claims that if he can change his life then anyone can. Matiu embraces all cultures, genders and spiritual beliefs. He specialises in the areas of trauma and grief counselling and counselling people who have been through all forms of abuse, predominantly with Māori but not exclusively. He deals with mental health and well-being, suicide, anger management, gangs, MC Clubs and many other areas. He is strong on respect and has a warm, quiet and gentle manner that is inviting to many. Matiu works from a range of Western modalities and Māori models of health. Delivering them in a unique and skilled way.
